What is DRaaS?
Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) is a cloud-based solution designed to protect business-critical systems and data by ensuring a fast recovery after an IT disruption, whether caused by cyberattacks, hardware failure, or natural disasters.
With DRaaS in place, you can minimise downtime, maintain business continuity, and have peace of mind knowing you can recover from a data disaster.
At Venom IT, we don’t just back up important files and documents; we back up the entire server. Acting as a fully managed DRaaS solution provider, we tailor every package to your risk profile and recovery objectives. From real-time data replication to automated failover and secure backup, you can ensure your systems are ready to bounce back at a moment’s notice.
We’re Cyber Essentials accredited and ISO 27001, 27017, and 27018 certified, demonstrating our proven expertise in secure, compliant cloud-based recovery solutions.

What is the difference between backups and disaster recovery?
While both Backup as a Service (BaaS) and Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) are vital for protecting your data, they serve very different purposes.
Backups: Backups involve creating regular copies of your data and storing them securely off-site. If files are accidentally deleted, corrupted, or lost, you can restore them from these backups. It’s a cost-effective way to protect your data from everyday mishaps.
However—backups alone don’t keep your business running. If your office is hit by a disaster like a flood or fire, your data may be safe, but your systems, applications, and devices could be unusable. You’ll have your data, but no way to access or use it until everything is rebuilt.
Disaster Recovery: Disaster recovery takes it further. DRaaS replicates not just your data, but your entire IT environment—including servers, systems, and applications—to a secure cloud platform.
If disaster strikes, you can instantly switch to a hosted desktop environment that mirrors your usual setup. Your team can work remotely from any device on any operating system; all they need is an internet connection.

What is covered by a disaster recovery solution?
We offer bespoke disaster recovery packages to suit your needs as best as possible.
We offer off-site backup, cloud backup, and cloud-based infrastructure
It’s best to discuss this with one of our staff so that we can ascertain your needs and create something that fits your budget and circumstances.
Typically the questions you should consider are:
- First, how will we communicate internally?
- How will we communicate externally?
- How will we access our documents and continue working?
- We need to accommodate our staff, but how do we do it?
-
What data should we include?
A disaster recovery plan is meant to provide the full functionality of your business, on short notice, during times of distress. Really, that means all your work data should be included in the disaster recovery solution.
-
How long does it take to be able to work again after a severe incident or disaster?
That depends on the level of disaster recovery solution. A full-suite solution can have you up and running within a couple of hours (or even minutes) whereas a partial solution can take a day or more to set up and deploy. Also, bear in mind that during times of disaster such as flooding, IT companies experience a huge demand for service. That can mean a partial solution could take even longer to deploy, whereas deploying a ready-to-go solution would take much less time.
-
What is the best method of disaster recovery?
Off-site backup | Cost: Low | Time to deploy: High
You still need workstations onto which to restore your backups, getting everything connected etc.
Cloud backup | Cost: Medium | Time to deploy: Medium
With your backups already in the cloud, and with virtual clones of all your physical servers ready to be booted up, this takes very little time. Bear in mind though that you still need workstations for your staff to work from.
Cloud-based infrastructure | Cost: Not as high as you might think | Time to deploy: No time/Always on
The most secure solution for office work on a day-to-day basis: hosted desktops with integrated VoIP.
With your entire team using this solution, disasters such as flooding get reduced to inconveniences.
Everyone can simply stay at home and work from there. Those without home computers can work at an internet café, shared office space or you could buy and deliver a laptop to accommodate their needs.
